Learn About Procedure Text!

Introduction

This web quest will help the students of grade 9, junior high school, in understanding procedural text better by making a proper procedural text and record the demonstration of the text.

Task

This task will train the student's skill in writing and speaking by making their own procedural text and present it in a video orally. Students will be divided in a group of 2-3 students. The students then will create a short procedure text. The procedure text will then be demonstrated by the students and the demonstration will be recorded in form of video

Process

Process #1 What is procedural text?

Procedural text is a set of text that gives a direction to the readers on how to do something. Procedural text can be found in any place, it can be given on your new gadget directions on how use the gadget, instruction on how to repair your bicycle, or even a recipe of how to make a cupcake is also included as a procedural text. Procedural text usually contains of step-by-step of how it will be done.

In terms of writing procedural text, there are four main components of procedural text, goal or aim, steps, resources, and conclusions. Process #2 Writing procedure text: After watching the explanation video and reading for a better understanding of procedural text, you were given a task regarding procedural text. You will work in a group and write a procedure text of how to make any kind of procedural text together. The first thing that you need to do is to decide the goal or aim of your writing; do you want to make help people how to make food or beverage, do you want to help people to give a simple instruction of how to apply something, or etc. Here are some examples of procedure text that you can use as a reference

Process #3 Video Recording: The demonstration of the procedure text has to be recorded. The group will show and explain what is it on your own procedure text by making the recipe in front of the camera. You can use any kind of recording gadget such as phone camera, digital camera, or webcam on your laptop, but make sure you make it clear and easy to hear. You need to explain it fluently without reading the procedure text you’ve made. Each person has to appear on the video and speak clearly.

Evaluation

The evaluation will be divided in to 2:

  1. Writing skill: Writing skill will be evaluate based on the text of your procedural text. The procedural text should be written in a correct tense and grammar. The contents of the procedural text also need to be detailed yet brief. One evaluation of procedural text will be used for all members of the group.

  2. Speaking skill: Speaking skill will be evaluate individually based on how the students explain their lines of procedural text on the video. Speaking skill will be evaluated by their fluency in speaking English and the correctness in pronouncing the words.

Conclusion

The students are expected to have a better understanding in procedure text, how to read and write one, also trained to speak and explain how to do something in English. Writing and speaking of the students will be used in this webquest.
