Task

You have recently learnt the concepts and units of conversions in Mathematical Literacy, it's time to test your knowledge and understanding of the specific topic.

Instructions are as follows...

1. This assignment consist of four questions. Section A, questions 1 to 3. Section B, consist of question 4 only.

2. You may use a scientifically approved calculator.

3. Use the number system according to the assignment.

4. Round off to two decimal places, if necessary.

5 .Answer all questions.

6. Show all calculations and methods.

7. You may type or hand write the assignment, scan and submit via email.

8. Good luck!

Process

Section A

Question 1

Convert each of the following values to the units given in brackets:

a) 150mm (cm)

b) 1 500 000 mm (km)

c) 1 500 g (kg)

d) 1 569 kg (ton)

e) 1 500 000 g (ton)

f) 549 cm (m)

g) 2 300 ml (l)

h) 10mm (m)

i) 20 ml (l)

j) 239 g (kg)

k) 2km (m)

l) 3.5 l (ml)

m) 20 kg (g)

n) 3,45 m (mm)

o) 45 l (ml)

p) 1 ton (g)

q) 39 cm (mm)

r) 100 l (ml)

s) 0.5 kg (g)

t) 2,5 km (cm)

Question 2

Convert each of the following values to the units given in brackets:

a) 120 seconds (minutes)

b) 2700 minutes (hours)

c) 144 hours (days)

d) 3 days (hours)

e) 4,5 hours (minutes)

f) 39 minutes (seconds)

g) 32 400 seconds (hours)

h) 7 200 minutes (days)

i) 2 days (seconds)

j) 7 days, and 6 hours (minutes)

Question 3

Convert the following measurements into ml. Remember that

1 tsp = 5ml; 1 tbs = 15ml, and 1 cup = 250ml

a) 3 tsp

b) 3 tbs

c) 3 cups

d) 212  tsp

e) 212  tbs

f) 212  cups

g) 113  tsp

h) 113  tbs

i) 113  cups

Section B

Question 4

The Ngobeni family uses 𝑥 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑠 of water per day. Use the given information to answer the following questions:

The Ngobeni family uses 3850 𝑚𝑙 of water per day for cooking and drinking, 90 𝑙 per day for bathing, 105 𝑙 per day in the shower, they wash dishes in the sink which uses 3100 𝑚𝑙, they run two loads of washing which uses 70 𝑙 of water per load, and they use 76 𝑙 to flush the toilet. 1 𝐾𝑖𝑙𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑟𝑒 = 1000 litres

a) How many litres of water do the Ngobeni family use per day?

b) How many litres of water are used when one person showers, if 3 people shower per day.

c) How many litres of water did the family use in the month of March? (assume they used the same amount of water every day)

d) If the family pay 𝑅 5.56 𝑝𝑒𝑟 𝐾𝑙 of water used, how much do they pay in March?

e) Suggest two possible ways for the Ngobeni family to save water.
