Grade 12 life sciences: human evolution.

Introduction

Good afternoon students. in our todays' lesson, we will be starting a new topic called human evolution.  you have studied the human skeleton in grade 10 and differentiated between a species and a population in our previous lesson. let us watch the below three minutes video so that you can be able to understand the important concepts of human evolution.

Task

Task 1

Please complete the following task.

The diagram below shows possible evolutionary relationships among some hominids.

1.1. What is this type of diagram called?                                                                      (3)

1.2. how many of EACH of the following are represented in the diagram above:

       (a). Genera.                                                                                                            (2)

       (b). Homo species.                                                                                                 (2)

1.3. Name the species that have Paranthropus aethiopicus as a common ancestor.   (2)

1.4. when did:

(a). Ardipithecus ramidus became extinct.                                                        (2)

(b). homo erectus first appear.                                                                          (2)

1.5. Name the hominid species that existed at the same as homo sapiens.          (2)

Total mark: 15

(b). 2 marks ( give the number of home species in the diagram).

3 2 marks ( Name the species that have Paranthropus aethiopicus as a common ancestor ).
4

(a). 2 marks. ( state the year in which Ardipithecus ramidus became extinct ).

(b). 2 marks. ( state the year in which homo Erectus first appeared ).

5 2 marks ( Name the hominid species that existed at the same as homo sapiens).

Conclusion

Give students a homework exercise.

Students must write a conclusion based on what they have learned in today's lesson.
