                                                                                       Activity 1

Below you will find a set of questions that you have to answer on your own. This questions are in preparation of your end of term exam as well as adding to your current grade so take your time because you have over enough time to complete this. After watching the introduction video please take the time to watch the videos that follow this.

1.  Why are plants called 'producers"?

2.  Describe the process of photosynthesis.

3. What are the two phases of photosynthesis?

4.  Is a greenplant a heterotroph or an autotroph and why do you say that?

5. What does photosynthesis require?

6. What does photosynthesis produce?

7. What is the cause for plants to be green in colour?

8. What colour does the leaf change when starch is present?

9.  Click on the link and copy the drawing or download the picture and Label the chloroplast.

10. Tabulate the differences between the light phase and the dark phase.

                                                                                                                                                                                       27 marks

Process

Photosynthesis

With the introduction video you will watch the video's and click on the links to see the pictures and articles that will give you a better idea on photosynthesis and it will help you answer the questions in the activity. While seeing the video's; pictures and articles open you mind and you will gain knowledge on

1. what photosynthesis is;

2. know what a autotroph is;

3. what is the reactants and products of photosynthesis;

4. you will know how to check for starch in a plant;

5. you will know how to identify what and where light and dark phase takes place;

6. you will be able to differentiate and explain light and dark phase of photosynthesis;

7. lastly you will be able to identify the chloroplast and name its parts

                                    It might seem much but everything links which makes it easier to remember.

Evaluation

                                        RUBRIC FOR ACTIVITY 1

This rubric will be used to mark your activity.

Questions                 Explanation on how to answer the question                                   How to give marks

Question 1 To answer this question you give the definition of a producer and link it to what green plants do.

2 Marks:1 mark for definition and 1 for linking green plants and producers.

Question 2 To answer this question the learner gives the process of photosynthesis by including the words radiant energy and chemical energy. 2 Marks: 1 mark for radiant energy and chemical energy and 1mark for the result of it.
Question 3 Mention the correct full term of the two phases of photosynthesis. 2 Marks: 1 mark per correct phase given.
Question 4 Answer by giving the correct term and a logical reason why you chose that term. 2 Marks: 1 mark for correct term and 1 mark for reason.
Question 5 Give two things that goes into photosynthesis. 2 Marks: 1 mark for each reactant given
Question 6 Give two things we get from photosynthesis. 2 Marks: 1 mark for each product given.
Question 7 Give the scientific name for the reason why plants are green (what causes the green colour). 1 Mark: spelling of the word should be clear and correct.
Question 8 The correct name of the solution should be given. 1 Mark: correct spelling of the solution and the whole term should be given.
Question 9 Label the picture exactly to where the lines are pointing to. labels and parts should be clear. 6 Marks: 1 mark per correct label.
Question 10 Give atleast three differences for each phase. Tabulate 7 Marks: maxiumum 3 marks for a difference in each phase. This answer must be in table form or no marks will be given.

                                                                                                                                      Your mark:          /27

Conclusion

To conclude this lesson, I would like to remind ALL learners that the activity has to be completed by the 5 September 2021 and submitted via email -brennernasreen0@gmail.com. The grade you receive is the effort you put into this. Check the rubric if you are not sure on how to answer. Remember this topic can be interesting, fun and easy if you dedicated enough. Thank You.
