A flashback into the 1960’s!

Welcome to a world from what you live in today. A world that electronics was not entertainment. Although the 1960’s was different from today’s society, you’ll be surprised at how you will be able to relate to some of the characters in this novel, You will explore real world problems, from gang life to music, fashion, discrimination, family and friendship.
Task
Your Task
To begin you will read about the author and complete a bio on her.
As you go through assigned chapters you will answering questions from each chapter, You will be working on this quest as you read the novel The outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
AS you read the novel you complete a handout ( The handout is listed below) This project must be turned in at the end of the novel.

After completing the novel you have a group project to complete alone with a paper.( Below I have included some choices for the group project).
The students will complete a character analysis on their favorite characters.

- What was fashion like in the 1960’s.
- List 3 things was going on in the world in the 1960’s.
- What kind of cars was in the 1960’s.

Now you have completed The Outsiders, you have the opportunity to place yourself in the shoes of a person who lives during the 1960’s during the time of discrimination and the Civil rights Movement. Think about the 1960’s relate to today’s society. Also, think about the setting on the story influences the development of each character and the story plot.

This WebQuest basically focuses on the novel, The outsiders- 1967 by S.E. Hinton. The reading main themes of the outsiders is self-identity vs. group identify. The three themes identified is empathy, self-sacrifice, and the importance friendship and family.
Objectives:
Students will learn the importance of the themes throughout the book.
Students will use technology to research using the web.
Students will complete a character analysis.
Students will create a presentation using PowerPoints.
