Introduction
To begin with we’ll use the most widely quoted definition of Sustainable Development from the 1987 Brundtland Report. “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
Sustainable Development focuses on a wide range of issues that fall under the three pillars of sustainability; environment, society and the economy.
In this topic, the students will get to know the issues and problems in terms of sustainable development by exploring with their group to study a definite part of the problem. In the following Web Quest, the student will use the power of teamwork to learn about 'Sustainable Development.' Each group will become experts on some aspects of these issues and then they will come together at the end to share and get a better understanding of the topic as a whole.
Task
The students will work as a group; each group will be assigned a specific role. The group will work together to create a Group Report that presents their answer to the questions provided. Their answer will be presented in two ways:
1. As a PowerPoint presentation or
2. They will make a video presentation.
After completing their performance they will be evaluated by the teacher.
Process
To get to know all the information on the topic and in order for them to answer the following questions, each group will watch the video on YouTube and read or search the information about sustainable development.
Here are the five questions that each group will be answered:
1. How many sustainable development goals have been developed by specialists?
2. What is the name of the organization that deals with world problems? How many countries are included in this organization?
3. a. How do you understand the phrase from the cartoon "People have the power that other living beings do not. We are the most
creative creatures in the world. "
b. Each group will invent their own slogan, which would illustrate the struggle against the global problems of mankind.
Evaluation
After they've done the Web quest, their presentation will be evaluated.
The PowerPoint, as well as the video presentation, will be evaluated based on the creativity, delivery, clarity, and coherence of the content, originality, and technical of the organization such as sound and picture quality.
Conclusion
Sustainable development is largely about people, their well-being, and equity in their relationships with each other, in a context where nature-society imbalances can threaten economic and social stability.
Remember, please, that we all have a part to play.
Small actions, taken collectively, can add up to real change.
“Try to go green and environmentally aware. A good start for lightening your load on our planet is to first understand where your own impacts come from!”
WELL DONE! THANK YOU
