Letters To Your Future Self

Introduction

Have you ever thought about what you want to be when you grow up? Where you want to live when you are older? Maybe even where you will attend college?

In this writing activity, you will be writing letters to your future selves! You will write about your goals you hope to achieve when you grow up and anything currently happening in your life. The goal is to be able to further our writing, spelling, and grammar skills, as well as writing a letter in the correct format.

Task

While writing these letters, I want you to focus on your spelling, grammar, punctuation, and overall organization. Don't forget to use the correct letter format we discussed in class! When your senior year of high school arrives, our school staff will mail your letter to you and you'll be able to see how much you have grown and changed since 4th grade!

I will provide paper and envelopes for everyone. If you would like to color or draw pictures, I will also provide crayons and colored pencils.

Process

1. Grab a piece of paper, an envelope, and a pencil.

2. Properly address the envelope.

3. Start writing the letter! Make sure you are using the correct formate of writing a letter. I want you to start off writing about what is currently happening in your life as a 4th grader. Some things you can write about include:

  • Your friends
  • Your family
  • Your current hobbies
  • Your favorite subject in school
  • Favorite sport
  • Favorite food
  • Etc.

4. After you write about your current life, I want you to answer these following questions:

  • What do you want to be when you grow up and why?
  • Where you would like to go to college (if you plan on going)?
  • Where would you like to live when you grow up?
  • Do you have any other goals you would like to achieve when you grow up?

*If you need help, use these- properly addressing an envelope and proper letter format

5. Decorate or color your letter however you would like.

6. Fold the letter, place it in the envelope, and turn it in to Ms. Holden.
