Introduction
In Grade 8, you have dealt with what was called the periodic table of elements. And here in grade nine we delve deeper on that.
If you recall the word "element" then you can silently name few elements that you recall.
I will mention three words which are: Oxygen, Nitrogen and Carbon
In this grade we delve deeper and focus on what happens when we we combine elements.
let us get to it
Task
Natural Sciences Grade 9 Class Activity (In this activity try and answer these following questions)
1. Name the following compounds:
a) Chlorine and sodium
b) Nitrogen, lithium and Oxygen
c) Calcium and Sulfur
d) Magnesium, oxygen and Phosphorus
2. How many different elements are in the following compouns
a) Sodium chloride
b) Zinc hydroxide
c) Copper carbonate
d) Potassium nitrate
Process
Now, let us look at the process of naming compounds. First let us watch and listen to this video
This video explains how compounds are made from mere elements.
And below from the link are some of the well known and daily used compoundshttps://studiousguy.com/compounds-we-use-in-everyday-life/
Evaluation
Here will be the evaluation of the task given and we will critically look at whether you understood the naming processes or not.
For number 1. did the ending on your compounds indicate how many elements are there in that compound. 2 marks for each question on this question will be awarded and then the overall would be 8 marks
For number 2. did the you manage to single out how many elements are there and if Yes can you perhaps name them. 3 marks will be awarded for each answer on this question (2) and the question's overall would be 12 marks
The activity's overall mark is 20 marks
Conclusion
In conclusion I urgue you all to look out at other compounds that are within you reach, meaning find out what are things like food, liquids are made of and in that way you will appreciate Science and see how vastly it is in our lives.
