Introduction

Good Day Grade 10's and welcome to our lesson on WebQuest!
Today's lesson will be one of Poetry and we will be focusing on the poem An Abandoned Bundle.
There will be link that you can access via WhatsApp, which is the reading of the reading of the poem.
This lesson is to assist you when answering questions pertaining to the poem, as well as to gain proficient understanding.
At the end of this lesson you should have no problems answering questions pertaining to the poem.

Task
- On WhatsApp I sent you a link that is the reading of the poem. See link below:
- Group work activity- Learners you are required to divide yourselves into groups of 5.
- Main Worksheet activity- This should be done individually.
- There will also be notes that you can go through to help you answer the questions.
- A copy of the poem is also available.
Process

You are required to watch the video that was sent to you via Whatsapp. This video will help you understand the poem better and will assist in answering the questions. There is also a copy of the poem, see below:

You are required to work in groups of 5. In those groups you need to discuss the following questions:
- What does the title mean to you, what is the first thing that comes to mind?
- What is an abandoned bundle?
- What are the meaning of the words, 'an', 'abandoned' and 'bundle'.

There are notes on the poem that you need to go through which will assist you when answering the main worksheet.

The main worksheet you are required to complete will be pertaining to the poem. Please answer the questions individually. The questions will be posted below.
- What does the bundle in the title refer to? (1)
- What is ironic about the name of the suburb? (2)
- What kind of atmosphere is created by the simile in lines 4-6? (2)
- Choose the most appropriate answer. The word 'It' (line 7) refers; White City Jabavu, a giganitc sore, Pus, the mixture of smoke and morning mist. (1)
- From Stanza 3, Which word reveals poverty in White City Jabavu? (1)

- Briefly explain what the poet reveals about the living conditions in the townships. (2)
- In the last stanza the poet suggests that the mother is not to blame for her action. Do you agree with the poet? (3)
