This Webquest is designed to assist students in developing a better understanding of pollution. Through this webquest, students will be able to assess the causes, effects and solutions to the problem of pollution.
Pollution can destroy the environment and cause devastating effects to humans, animals and wildlife. As the years progress and technology increases we hope to mitigate the problem of pollution and with increased awareness it is believed that one day the issue of pollution will be eradicated. Otherwise, our world as we know it will be significantly affected and our wellbeing will be in jeopardy.
Task
Task
You have been employed to be a Public Relations Advisor at the Negril Area Environmental Protection Trust (NEPT). Your new job requires that you visits schools informing them about the causes, effects and solutions to pollution. Your task is to create a presentation that you will use to demonstrate to students how to protect the environment from pollution and help them to become environmentalists in their communities, so as to ensure sustainability.
You will use the following questions to guide you in creating your presentation:
Questions:
- What is pollution?
- List the three main types of pollution.
- What are some of the causes of pollution?
- What are some preventative measures that can reduce pollution?
Process
Students will be divided in pairs, where they will work with a partner to create a presentation for students at the secondary level. The aim of the presentation is to educate students on pollution and how it affects the environment.
Your presentation will be based upon the four questions that was listed in the task section. Please ensure that you try to make your presentation very interesting and engaging. Also be sure to add factual information and supporting evidences to your presentation.
You may use one of the following method to do your presentation:

- Informative videos along with written scripts

The webquest is geared towards students who are studying science. It gives details particularly on environmental science. This webquest promotes independent learning and allow students to develop researching skills. This particular webquest was designed to assist students in understanding what is pollution, the causes, the effects and ways in which we can reduce pollution in our environment.
The students' task is to do a presentation in the form of a powerpoint or informative video. They should provide information to help students better understand the issue of pollution. It is expected that through this form of exploration, the students will become more knowledgeable of the topic. Prior to the presentation, students will be shown how to develop a simple powerpoint and how to organize their video clips for the video presentation.
In order to assess students, a rubric was created with the different criteria.
