Mathematics Gr 8- Pythagorean theorem

Introduction

Gooday students!

Welcome to your Mathematics measurements Webquest. We are going to have some fun while learning some new things through exploration on the internet. Get your measuring tools ready and let’s dive in!

This measurement Webquest will take you on a mathematical journey that will explore a very important and famous mathematical theorem, namely the Pythagorean Theorem. You will get some insight into who Pythagoras was, what his theorem says and how we can apply his theorem in the real world context to solve real-world based problems.

Task

Welcome to measurement

You have task of individually discovering the Pythagorean Theorem by taking an inquiry based approach. By doing this you will come across information who Pythagoras was and how he contributed to society and the mathematical world.

In this quest your task is to learn about the right angled triangle, the relationships between its sides as well as the different features thereof. Also, you will be able to define what the Pythagorean Theorem is and describe what it means. Finally, you will learn how to apply the Pythagorean Theorem to solve real-world based problems.

You need not worry at all, there’s a lot of exciting materials that will help you learn and understand in no time. With that said, let’s begin!

Process

Follow the links below and do some reading. Provide some background information about the individual who discovered the Pythagorean Theorem and his contributions to man.

This WebQuest will teach students about the Pythagorean Theorem.

It also allows students to use the Internet to conduct their own research and gain a better grasp of the Pythagorean Theorem.

This is an excellent method to begin teaching the Pythagorean Theorem and the several concepts that follow.
