Introduction
- When introducing a lesson in the classroom. I will first start by greeting my learners and remind them about what we have done in class previously. We did language before where we were identifying Prepositions in a sentence, and now they are going in-depth with the language.
In- Second step, I will write the words (SYNONYMS and ANTONYMS) on the board and ask the learners what they think those words mean. Any answer is acceptable as I will later give them the correct definition. Examples:
1. What is a Synonym?
- Synonym is a word of the same or similar meaning. E.g. Active - Energetic
2. What is an Antonym?
- Antonym is a word of opposite meaning. E.g. Above - Below
-Give the learners a chance to come up with their own examples.
-Refer them to watch a video on youtube so that they have a more understanding of the words and be able to complete an activity.
Task
-Assess the learner based on the work that they have done in the classroom. Below is the learners' activity.
Activity 1
a. Provide the Synonyms for the Following words
1. Strong
2. Taste
3. Sign
b. Provide the Antonyms for the Following words
1. Laugh
2. Young
3. Succeed
[6 marks]
Process
- When completing the task, learners should know that Synonyms are often interchangeable but the word choice is dependent on the context.
- Note that they may also use prefixes and suffixes to create opposite meanings.
- A different word can be modern or old-fashioned.
- Watch again a youtube video that explains the tips of solving questions based on Antonyms and Synonyms.
Evaluation
-When evaluating learners I will mark their books simply provide them with a Memo in a form of doing corrections.
