Introduction
During this lesson, you will be learning the why and how recycling happens. You will have several tasks and the final activity will be to make either a PSA or an "Awareness" Poster that demonstrates understanding of the impact recylcing has on our planet/community.
Task
Part 1: Go to the following site: https://www.epa.gov/recycle/recycling-basics
From the website information, answer the following questions:
1. From the benefits section, list which 2 benefits you think are the most important.
2. What does the term Recycled-Content Product mean?
3. What are three common "recycled-content" products that you have used in the last year?
4. What is one common "recycled-content" products that you have never used?

1. What are 2 specific consumer tips to be aware of when handling household hazardous wastes (HHW)?
2. List 2 HHW and what an alernative product/method that could be used instead.
Part 3: https://www.epa.gov/recycle/used-household-batteries
1. What is the recommended disposal method for alkaline/zinc-carbon batteries?
2. What is the protocol for automotive batteries?
Part 4: https://www.sedgwickcounty.org/environment/household-hazardous-waste-facility/
1. List at least 2 interesting things you learned from this site about the HHW facility for Sedgwick County.
List 3 things you learned while watching/re-watching the video.
Process
After all the research, you will have the option to make a poster or a PSA (Pubic Service Announcement) about recycling and the importance of doing this.
If you choose to do a poster you can use PowerPoint or the following website that allows you to make a more detailed poster: https://www.postermywall.com/
If you choose to do a PSA (Public Service Announcement) the following website is a great place to make one and it is pretty easy to use! https://biteable.com/
Another way to make a PSA is https://www.voki.com/create This one is also pretty easy to use but you'll have to select from the free option versions only!
