Our planet is exhausted! The Earth's atmospheric temperature increases everyday because of deforestation, pollution and abusive energy consumption. As a result many living beings and animals are affected. We all will suffer if we refuse to take action now, once and for all.

Only us can save our environment and we have the opportunity to do so. We can and we must do it!

Pretend that you are a member of an ecological organization. You are required to create a brochure to educate individuals about the issues that are affecting our environment. On this brochure, there should be information on the topic of energy consumption and recycling, endangered lives (animals and humans), and pollution. To enhance your brochure you may want to add some drawings, graphics, pictures or charts. Extend your invitation to individuals to take action to help and save our home here on planet Earth.

Process

Step 1. Click on the link below and listen to the story on pollution. You are then required to create a chart on the different types of pollution including their health effects on mankind.

                                                                               Types of Pollution

There are several types of pollution and while they may come in various forms they all destroy our environment in one way or the other. Understanding about these pollutions can help to save our planet.

There are three main types of pollution: land air and water pollution.

Pollution is the disposal of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are known as pollutants. These pollutants can be harmful such as volcanic ash and they can also be caused by human's activities such as trash or run off produce by factories. Pollutants damage the quality of land, air and water.

 Soil Pollution

Soil pollution is the is caused by chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment. Industrial activities such as agricultural chemicals or improper disposal of waste contribute greatly to soil pollution. Visit the link below for more information on soil pollution.

Air Pollution

The mixture of solid particles and gases in the air is known as air pollution. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollens and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Click on the link below to listen the video to gain more knowledge on air pollution.

Water Pollution

The contamination of water bodies which is usually as a results of human's activities is considered to be water pollution. These water bodies may include lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and underground water. listen the video below for additional details on water pollution.

Recycling

What is recycling?

Recycling is the collecting and processing of materials that will otherwise be disposed as trach, hence turning them into new product. Both the community and the environment can benefit from recycling. Be sure to add recycling information to your brochure,

The links below holds valid readable print on the benefits of recycling.

Step 3. Throughout your readings you might come across unfamiliar words. Use the new terminologies to create a glossary of terms. You may visit the link for a Cambridge dictionary below for definitions.

Step 4. Practice sorting rubbish! Have fun while leaning how to sort rubbish accordingly. Click the links to access site.

Step 5.  Design your brochure!

Once the brochures are completed, students will have to present them orally to the entire class, explaining what information, pictures or graphs they have selected and in what way they brochure can assist in raising awareness about environmental issues. Copies will be made and issue to the school once all the students have made their presentations.
