National holidays of the world

Introduction

7-8 grade

Every country and every nation has its own traditional holidays. This quiz will help students find out what holidays are celebrated by people around the world, as well as allow them to immerse themselves in the culture of different countries.

During completing this quest students will repeat the vocabulary they have learned on the topic of "holidays" and learn new phrases and words.

Let's get into a wonderful festive atmosphere, see what gifts people give on these holidays and whether there are traditional dishes for these holidays.

Task

In groups of 4 you have to find the information about national holidays (just 1 country for 1 group). You have to divide the roles in each group. However, all team members are responsible for presenting information in the classroom.

You can choose any country you like. But make sure that countries in different groups do not repeat themselves! Choose 1-2 holidays and be ready to tell about them for the class.

For this task you may check out this websites:

https://www.officeholidays.com/

https://www.infoplease.com/culture-entertainment/holidays/national-holidays-around-world

Or choose 1 of these holidays:

1) Christmas

2) Hanukkah

3) Eid-al-Fitr

4) Diwali

5) Kwanza

6) Las Posadas

Process

When you have decided which holidays you want to talk about, read the information about them and start making a presentation in PowerPoint.

I recommend you to use this website to find the information:

https://www.britannica.com/

You should tell about:

- The name of holiday

- Dates

- What do people do on this day?

- Do they have traditional dish for this day?

- Do you want to celebrate this holiday?

Present your work to your class.

Evaluation

Other teams give an assessment of the work done. Their assessment must be substantiated. It is necessary to take into account the cohesion of the team, the quality of the speech and presentation. It is necessary to make sure that all points of the plan have been disclosed by the team.

Conclusion

Thank you for your great work! I hope you enjoyed the webquest and learned a lot of interesting things about the culture of other countries.

Well done!
