Introduction

Place Value of three-digit numbers 

As we continue to embark on our journey we need to stop and learn a few things in order to complete our task successfully. Now, we have learned important tools to help us get through this challenging task. We've learned about our one and two-digit place values, now its time to take the next step onto three-digit place values. We will be learning about the Hunderths place, along with looking at numbers that have 3 digits and see which number is in the hundredths place, we will be able to create our own number and say which place value each number is in, and then we will read a word problem, make that into a number, then decide which on is in the hundredths place. Now let's get to work!

 

Mrs.Garland's 2nd graders will be able to understand the place values of three-digit whole numbers.

Task

You will be handed a piece of paper that has mostly numbers but there will be a section for fill in the blank along with a section for word problems.

In the first section the you need to write which number is in the hundredths place. For example, The number will be 592, you will say the 5 is in the hundredths place.

With the fill in the blank you are going to write out the number. For example, the number can be 678. The students would write out Six hundred and seventy-eight.

When you move onto the word problem student are to read the word problem and then write out the word they are explaining. For example, Bill has 100 sea shells, 40 star fish, and 9 strips of sea weed all in his beach bucket. How many items does Bill have all? After you have found the answer which number is in the Hundredths place? The students answer would be 149 and the 1 is in the hundredths place. 

Process

  • Look at the number then count to see which number lands into the Hundredths place. *Remember you count three to the left.
  • After you have figure out which number belongs in the correct place write it down on the line below.
  • Look at your number, say the number in your head, then write it down in the place that was given to you. *You can ask me for help spelling the word or you can use your dictionary.
  • You need to write your response in complete sentences. *Capital letters and correct punctuation.
  • Read the word problem to yourself, then put the numbers together, if you think you have the right number see which one goes into the hundredths place. *Remember to double check your work. 
  • There will be two columns below the word problem don't forget to put the correct answer in the right answer space. 

Evaluation

Each question is worth 5 points.

There will be a total of 20 questions.

You will be get 1 point counted off for each word you miss spell. 

You will get 2.5 points counted off for only completing half of your word problems. Thats why we always look over our work before we turn it in. 

Conclusion

You will need to answer each question correctly to earn fun points for each section.

You need to either circle or write your answers and put them into the correct answer box below the question.

You need to write your answers in complete sentences in the second section. 

Don't forget to go through and double check your work. 

Once you have looked over your paper and are confident in your answers then turn it into the bin in the back of the classroom.
