Introduction
INTRODUCTION
Throughout this WebQuest individuals will learn about unmet needs in child welfare concerning affordable child care and a possible solution to the problem.
Child Welfare was put in place to protect children from neglect, abuse, violence and exploitation. Affordable child care, including after school programs falls under the guidelines of a need that is unmet in child welfare. Child care is a very important need for most parents to be able to provide for their families. Without appropriate child care, it can cause for children to become neglected or go down the wrong life paths due to not having enough support.

Task
TASK
In order to meet the unmet need of child care and the lack of after school programs individuals have to educate themselves on local policies that support child care and politicians in their community who support said policies. Not only will it take the education and support of politicians, it will also take the support of the community in order to efficiently to support the improvement and funding of after school programs. In order to fund after school programs that are grants available such as the Wallace Foundation and OST also known as Out Of School Time Programs that provide "measurable benefits to youth and families on outcomes directly related to program content.
In order to have an appropriate after school program, facilities will be needed. Many communitties have access to rec centers and schools who are open to taking in the youth in order to provide a better future as long as there is funding, a plan for the program and the children. In order to secure and effectively work on the improvement of after school programs there will need to be a team to help support the cause. The team should consist of several individuals in the community such as politicians, parents, educators and even the children who the programs will be supporting.

PROPOSAL
To whom it may concern,
I Cheyenne Leigh and the community of Norfolk Virginia look forward to partnering with you to provide an after school program for children k-12 in the community. For every child in an after school program in Virginia, there are four children waiting for an available program. The objective of another after school program in the community is to keep children safe and out of trouble, excite them about learning, build safe life skills and give working parents a peace of mind. Considering that this is our first attempt at supporting and up keeping an after school program we are asking that you strongly consider the children and the community when considering our proposal request. Our proposal request is $8,000 in funding to obtain the necessary resources needed such as software and possible vouchers for families in need. With the support of local politicians, social workers and others in the community we see this after school program being a great investment in bettering the community and supporting and protecting the children. We appreciate your foundation for taking an interest in helping us create a safe environment for the children in the community.
Warmest regards,
Cheyenne Leigh

Conclusion
In order to help communities support and maintain after school programs, it is important that we as social workers continue to advocate for the children. Advocating for more after school programs allows individuals to educate hose who are unaware of the impact that after school programs have and also allows the gain of financial support from other areas such as grants and donations.
Below is a link that informs you of the benefits of after school programs and how you can help support the cause.
