Classifying Triangles

Introduction

By the end of this webquest, you will be able to:

  1. Classify Right, Obtuse, and Acute angles and Triangles
  2. Be able to Draw and Measure Angles
  3. Identify Parts of a triangle

Task

Students will record measurements of angles and triangles.

Students will learn how to use a protractor correctly and efficiently.

Students will create a Google slide to demonstrate their new knowledge regarding the classifications of triangles.

Process

#1)  Watch the Powtoon below and visit the website.

https://www.onlinemathlearning.com/types-of-triangles.html

https://youtu.be/tko52HVJsbo

#2)  Go to http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/math/geometry/classify-angles.htm and complete the tutorial step-by-step and then the "Test Yourself" section.  Screenshot a copy of your results and save it on your Google Drive to insert into your presentation later.

#3)  Review the following websites to further your knowledge of classifications of triangles (you do not need to do the sketchpad activities)

http://www.geom.uiuc.edu/~ekeel/Project/tri1.html

#4) When you feel you are ready, visit the following website to practice classifying triangles by their angles. You must classify 100 triangles. Click on the button to Report your totals and email the page to cbivens@harnett.k12.nc.us.

http://www.aaamath.com/geo318x3.htm

#5)  When you feel like you understand how to classify triangles, visit these sites and learn how to use a protractor.

http://www.mathopenref.com/constmeasureangle.html

https://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/protractor-using.html  Read and watch the animations and do questions 1-10...be sure to take a screenshot of your results to insert into your presentation!

#6) Review the parts of a triangle

#7) Create a digital presentation that covers this lesson regarding parts of triangles, measuring angles using a protractor, and how to classify triangles by their angle measurements and by their sides. Using Google Slides.  Remember the few items throughout this web quest that need to be inserted into your presentation somewhere.

Also include definitions and 2 pictures for each triangle: acute triangle, right triangle, obtuse triangle, equiangular, scalene triangle, equilateral triangle, and isosceles triangle in your presentation

Evaluation

Conclusion

By now, you should:

  1. know how to differentiate between different kinds of triangles
  2. be able to measure and draw angles
  3. be able to measure and draw triangles

Each group will present to the class.

The other groups will evaluate and compare each design.
