Concave Mirror

Introduction

                                                           Concave Mirror

If the inner surface of the spherical mirror is the reflecting surface, then it is called a concave mirror.

In this WebQuest, we are going to learn about Concave Mirror.

Objectives:-

  1. The pupil acquires knowledge of terms related to concave mirror.
  2. The pupil develops an understanding of reflection in concave mirror.
  3. The pupil develops an understanding of ray diagrams.
  4. The pupil applies knowledge and understanding in virtual experiment to study reflection in concave mirror.
  5. The pupil develops skills in drawing ray diagrams for concave mirror.

Task

Task 1: Watch the video for knowing the terms related to spherical mirror (concave mirror).

Task 5: Draw the ray diagrams for image formation in concave mirror in your notebook.

Process

                                                        Steps to follow

1. Perform the Virtual Experiment using the OLABS platform(link provided in Task 4)  to study reflection in concave mirror.

2. Complete the table for images formed by concave mirror during the virtual experiment.

No. Position of the object  Position of the image  Nature of the image  Size of the image
1 Between pole and focus
2 At the focus
3 Between focus and centre of curvature
4 At the centre of curvature
5 Beyond the centre of curvature
6 At a very large (infinite) distance

3. Draw the ray diagrams in your notebook for the above reflections in concave mirror.

Evaluation

  • Watch the video to check the ray diagrams drawn in Step 3 of Process.
