Types of Fabric

Introduction

This lesson is all about the different types of Fabric that used in our daily lives. In this topic you will be familiar what the common fabric that we usually used. You will be also known to other fabric that used also in the other things to decorate the houses work and events.

 

But, before that let's find out the meaning, history and origin of fabric:

Fabric is made by weaving. felting, knitting, natural crocheting or synthetic fiber material. Fabric can produce by weaving together the cotton, nylon, wool, silk or other thread. Fabric are used for making things such as clothes, curtain, and sheets.

It says, that the earliest evidence of weaving was started in Neolithic cultures around 500 B.C.E by weaving a basket. Cotton is the earliest used fabric in India around 300 B.C.E followed by silk that started in Chinese chronicles as the same period of time.

Cotton is the common fabric the we known and used. It made from natural fibers material cotton plants. the term cotton refers to  the part  cotton plants that grows in the boil, the encasing for the fluffy material.

Silk is a natural fiber produced by the silk worm, an insect, as a material for their nests and cocoons. Silk is known for its shine and softness as a material. It is an incredibly durable and strong material with a beautiful drape and sheen. Silk is used for formal attire, accessories, bedding, upholstery, and more.

Satin is one of the three major textile weaves, along plain weave and twill. The satin weave creates an elastic, shiny, soft fabric with a beautiful drape. Satin fabric is characterized by a soft, lustrous surface on one side, with a duller surface on the other side. This is a result of the satin weaving technique, and there are many variations on what defines a satin weave.

Leather is any fabric that is made from animal hides or skins, and different leathers result from different types of animals and different treatment techniques. While cowhide is the most popular animal skin used for leather, comprising about 65 percent of all leather produced, almost any animal can be made into leather, from crocodiles to pigs to stingrays. Leather is a durable, wrinkle-resistant fabric, and it can take on many different looks and feels based on the type of animal, grade, and treatment.

Gingham is a popular fabric due to its low cost and ease of production. Gingham is used frequently for button-down shirts, dresses, and tablecloths.

Task

At the end of the lesson student will be able to:

  • Understand the types of fabric
  • Illustrate the uses of fabric
  • Appreciate the used of fabric 

Process

the lesson will presented as power point presentation that includes the topic lesson. Teacher will discuss the topic while having a graded recitation. After the discussion, the student will have an activity that involves the topic lesson. The cooperation of the study is important for the complying and activity that be headed after the discussion.

Evaluation

The student will draw a material that used by this following fabric: Cotton, Silk, Satin and Leather a -d give self understanding meaning. The output will be graded by the following criteria:
