Introduction
As a student who is new to American schools and culture, you have an interesting perspective and an exciting story around your journey to a new country. We will uses these experiences in a narrative writing prompt.
Task
Think about your trip from your home country to your new home here in the United States as a foreign exchange student. Be sure to brainstorm prior to beginning your writing. Think back to your emotions and thoughts as you prepared for your journey. Do you remember how you felt to leave your family and friends? How was your journey? How were your flights? Were there any interesting events that occurred as you travelled? How was meeting your host family and seeing the United States for the first time?
Process
Take 5-10 minutes to brainstorm. Brainstorming ideas are listed in the task.
Write a narrative about your preparation and journey to the United States. There is a one page minimum.
After completing your writing assignment, remember to proofread and review your work.
Evaluation
Review your work for the following items:
- Ensure there are no incomplete sentences or run-on sentences in your work.
- Review your work for any misspelled words and correct them.
- Reread your work to ensure your narrative flows and is in the correct order.
Conclusion
Now that you have completed your writing assignment, share your work with at least two other students. Proofread each other's work and then discuss differences and similarities of your journeys.
