The Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Introduction

Have you ever seen a butterfly? Have you ever thought of where a butterfly comes from? Have you ever thought about how a butterfly becomes a butterfly?

You will be exploring a butterfly's life cycle. The goal of this WebQuest is that you will be fluttering through a website to learn interesting facts about a butterfly's cycle and the different stages of a butterfly's life cycle. By the end of this, you will be an expert about the knowledge of butterflies. Have fun flying!

Task

You and your group will be researching and examining the life cycle of a butterfly. I will assign each group to a specific stage of the cycle to research and examine using the website and videos that I provide for you on this WebQuest. Then, we will come together as a whole class to discuss the information from the WebQuest regarding the butterfly life cycle.

Process

1. You and your group will will find out from Miss Yattoni on which stage of the butterfly life cycle you will be learning about during this WebQuest. I will be following the rubric to evaluate you identifying one of the four stages of a butterfly's life cycle. 

2.  Next, begin looking at the particular website that covers the stage that you were assigned. Also, take a look at the video that is available for every group to watch.

3. Then, on a piece of paper, you and your group will draw the stage of a butterfly's life cycle that you were assigned. 

  • I will provide markers, crayons, and colored pencils for you. 

4. I want you and your group to be able to tell me the definition of what takes place during your stage of a butterfly's life cycle that you were assigned. I want you to write the definition down on a the piece of paper with your drawing. 

5. Find one interesting fact in the reading of your stage that you were assigned. 

6. Get ready to present in front of the class to talk about what you and group found by exploring the website and watching the video. 

Once you know the four stages of a butterfly's life cycle, you will be able to identify the four stages and pick out the correct vocabulary for each stage that occurs.

Knowing the life cycle of a butterfly will give you the chance to raise your own beautiful butterflies in the near future.

This WebQuest was designed for students to be able to understand the life cycle of a butterfly by learning the stages of development it goes through in order and learning vocabulary concepts. We all have our own life cycle that we go through in life to keep a particular thing existing. The life cycle of a butterfly is a perfect example to show what they need to grow and survive.
