Introduction

This lesson covers the Philippine Folk Dances from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao. This unit deals with the different dances from the regions, to their meanings and their purposes. You will then be asked to answer questions about the different dances and also to choose and make a demonstration from your chosen dance. At the end of this lesson provide insight and make a good argument on your insight.

Formation The student demonstrates clearly the correct dance formation.  Students get into position for the dance with a little help/assistance. Students require some assistance from someone in getting into a posistion. The student is not clear about the dance formation.
The sequence of Steps The student is in a leading role and clearly demonstrates the correct dance sequence. Students can follow most of the dance sequence with some guided help from others. Students can follow portions of the dance with frequent cues provided by others. Students seem lost or demonstrate incorrect dance steps.
Beat Students clearly maintain the beat in their dance and consistently maintains it throughout the dance. Demonstrate the beat most of the time and is able to maintain it on the dance. Students' beat is inconsistent and it fluctuates at times. Movements and the beat of the music are out of step or not synchronized.
Work Ethics The student is totally motivated to participate in the dance.  Approaches dance with a positive attitude. Students participate in the dance that needed focus. Show little or no enthusiasm for the dance.

 

Conclusion

Philippine dance has played a tremendous role in Filipino culture. From one of the oldest dated dances called the Tinikling to other folkloric dances such as the Pandanggo, Cariñosa, and Subli, and even to more modern-day dances like the ballet, it is no doubt that dance in the Philippine setting has integrated itself into society over the course of many years and is significantly embedded in the culture. Each of these dances originated in a unique way and serve a certain purpose, showcasing how diverse Philippine dances are.
