Stone Age Webquest

Introduction

This week in our lesson we will discuss about different historical ages in history. The students need to remember the past simple form and phrasal verbs as we discussed in our previous classes. They are familiar with the different historical periods also they all know present, past, future forms of language. My students are 16 years old 10th grade students. Their level is pre-intermediate and intermediate. (B1) In our institution we need to teach according to CLIL. So, I prepared my webquest accordingly.

Task

Firstly, the students need to understand the specific historical period.

(They will watch a cartoon cut for this.) (Bronze age, Iron age, Middle Age, Stone Age...)

Then, the students need to answer some questions I will give about the Stone Age.

(This is mainly open ended questions about  appearances and the daily life routines of Stone Age people.)

As they continue, they will revise their knowledge about past simple and phrasal verbs. But before that, they will read information about the stone age. (What is the Stone Age ?) (How about the people?), (How they live?)

The students will answer the questions I prepared about the Stone Age focusing on Past Simple.

Lastly, they will watch a video about the Stone Age and they will think about what they will do if they woke up in a Stone Age. This will be a writing activity and all the answers of these activities will be collected by teacher one by one. Plus, they will create a simple poster about stone age.

The lesson is 60 minutes. The students have 10 minutes for each activity except follow up. Follow up is 30 minutes.

The students will use word document for their answers due to online teaching.

The teacher will check them after the webquest lesson and will give feedback.

What would you do if you woke up in the Stone Age ? You can give examples from the video.

(300 Words max.)

Follow Up Activity Answer Key:

If I woke up in a Stone Age, I would afraid. Because this historical period looks so dangerous. In the video, there was no internet and no phone connection. It would be hard for me. They don't wear clothes like we did. They wore animal skins and grasses. You need to hunt wild animals. They can catch you easily. Their home looks unsafe. It is made up by stones. But this period looks more natural. The houses were less and forests were clean. If I lived there, I need to remember some hunting tips to survive and at the end of the day, playing a flute would be enjoyable.

Step 5: Follow Up Activity Continue: (10 minutes)

I want you to prepare a poster by using the information you learned from this lesson.

Topics you can use: Appearances of Stone Age people, What did they eat ? What made you interested about this topic ?  How could they express themselves ? What did they do ?

You can take a look to this website for more historical information:
