Elements of Art

Introduction

The Elements of Art are a commonly used group of aspects of a work of art used in teaching and analysis. Combined with the principles of art. Also known as the building blocks of an art work.

Elements of Art are made up of:

1. Line - most easily defined as a mark that spans a distance between two points, taking any form along the way.

2. Shape - pertains to the use of areas in two dimensional space that can be defined by edges, setting one flat specific space apart from another.

3. Color - pertains to the use of hue in artwork and design.

4. Texture - quality of a surface or the way any work of art is represented.

5. Space - area provided for a particular purpose.

6. Form - considered three-dimensional showing height, width and depth.

7. Value - directly related to contrast.

Task

Enumerate the 7 Elements of Art.

Process

The students must read and analyze the lesson for them to be able to answer the posted activity.

Evaluation

Make an art having the 7 elements of art on it.

Conclusion

Knowing what the elements of art enables us to

1. Describe what an artist has done;

2. Analyze what is going on in a particular piece;

3. Communicate our thoughts and findings using a common language.
