Introduction
I want you to explore why some items float and some sink.
Task
Complete the following: write a hypothesis, do the experiment, compare/contrast results to the hypothesis.
Process
Activity 1: Hypothesis
On the Float or Sink Worksheet look at the item on your left and check if the item will sink or float on the right side.
Activity 2: Experiment
Each item from the worksheet is provided including a rectangle container filled with water.
You will place each item one at a time in the water. After placing each item in the container check the results (did the item float or sink?) on the right side of the paper next to the educated guess.
Before completing activity 3 watch Float or Sink - Why do things float? - Why do things sink?
Activity 3: Compare/Contrast results.
Now that you have an idea why things float and sink compare/contrast your hypothesis with the results.
