Be Savvy: Digital Etiquette- Cyberbullying

Introduction

Our goal in this WebQuest is to find out what cyberbully is, what to do if we are being cyberbullied, and what we can do to avoid it.

Using the internet in the 21st century can be a great and fun place for learning. It gives us a lot of information with helps to increase our knowledge, it also helps us to connect and socialize with people from all around the world. Despite these benefits, the internet can also be a very dangerous place where people can be very mean to each other. They can say or do harmful things especially to children. 

 

Task

In the process of doing this task, we will learn what cyberbullying is, know about different types of cyberbullying and identify some things we can do if we are being cyberbullied.

For your task, you are required to work in groups of four(4) to create a scrapbook about cyberbullying. Include the following:

-what is cyberbullying

-Is there a difference between cyberbullying and bullying on the playground?

-draw cartoon images to represent how persons feel when they are cyberbullied

-what are two things we can do if we are being cyberbullied?

-do you think cyberbullying is a good thing or not? Give reasons for your answer.

 

The task will be reviewed using the rubric (on the Evaluation page) provided.  

Process

  1. Class discussion - What do you think is cyberbullying? Do you think we should cyberbully our friends when using the internet?  How do you think people feel when they are being cyberbullied?
  2. Watch video - "NetSafe Episode 5" 
  3. Research - Use the internet to find other information about different types of bullying.
  4. Read more about different types of cyberbullying

Conclusion

After completion of this task/activity, students will learn what is cyberbullying, know about different types of cyberbullying, and identify some things we can do if we are being cyberbullied. Students will research different types of bullying and complete a scrapbook depicting cyberbullying.
