Once Upon a Rhyme

Introduction

This week in class we read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss! This book has many rhyming words and many fictional characters. Wouldn't it be neat to find animals that live in your home state rhyme like those in the book!?

Task

For the task you will  first chose 1 character from the book. You are then tasked with finding a species that is native to Florida that rhymes with that character. After that you will write one page from the book with your new character. When you are creating the new page try to find new words that rhyme with the ones that are already there!

Process

Steps:

Re-listen and follow along to the podcast on One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

Go to the website below and look for a species that rhymes with the character in the book

Rewrite the page with your new species and at least three new/different words that still rhyme and make sense in the book!

Put the new words in all caps

After this you will then do some research on the species you have found.

Include the following information:

Where does the species live?

What does it eat?

Is it an animal or plant?

How does the environment benefit from the species?

You are to also add three facts about the species.

Sometimes having to find specific rhyming words can be difficult so I'm glad to see the creativity that everyone has used!  We will continue to intertwine our Florida species in our units throughout the year!

The WebQuest was created for second students to learn about rhyming. This activity challenges students to find rhyming words within boundaries and challenge them to be creative with the pauses and stanzas. This activity also weaves in information about their native land so they are learning about their home state. This activity combines English, and Science. This activity can be altered for any book, state, or topic!
