Friends and Internet Safety

Introduction

How do we know someone is a good friend?  What types of things do you look for in a friend?  These are important questions to ask when you are forming new friendships online or in person.  Using the internet allows you to make many new connections with others and possibly form friendships, but you always need to be careful with online friendships.  Sometimes, the person may not be who they say they are online.  

Task

You will watch two more videos on the topic of friends and internet safety and answer questions to demonstrate your understanding.  

You will find other websites about internet safety and write 5 tips to share with your friend on a Google document.  Please share this document with me as well.  Include the websites you used at the top of the document. 

Process

1.  Open a Google Document and title it "Friends and Internet Safety Webquest"

2.  Make sure you label each Part (A, B, C) and answer the questions.

Part C:  5 Tips About Internet Safety

Find 5 tips about internet safety using other websites.  Follow the instructions below:

 

1.  On the internet, search 'internet safety' in your favorite search engine (for example, Google).

2.  When you find a tip about internet safety, bookmark the site and copy the URL.  

3.  Paste all of the URLs on your Google doc.

4.  Write your 5 tips below your sources (URLs).

By now, you have a good idea of what makes a good friend (in person and online) and internet safety.  Before you accept someone's friendship online, think about what you have learned in these lessons.  Before you give personal information online or to other people, think about what you have learned in these lessons.  You can self advocate and make good choices with the knowledge you have!
