Prevention and Technologies in relation to non-infectious diseases and disorders. Module 8 Week 4

Introduction

In this final activity, you will be researching a non-infectious disease of your choice. During this research task you will be answering questions with reference to the marking criteria.

A non-infectious disease in most cases are preventable, although can sometimes be genetic or can occur from birth. These are diseases or disorders that cannot be passed to other people and can impact the functioning of parts of an individual's body to an extent. Certain non-infectious diseases and disorders, when not treated with the correct care and diligence can cause significant harm to the individual and can even result in death in severe cases. Non-infectious diseases are one of the leading causes of death globally.

An example of non-infectious disease can range from: hearing loss, diabetes, cancers and cardio-vascular diseases, just to name a few.

Homeostasis is a balance that is required in your body to function correctly. For example: in summer to reduce our bodies from over heating, we take several steps to cool ourselves down. This includes, sweating (an automatic body function), having a glass of water, going for a swim or turning on the air con. Without these steps our body would not be able to function correctly and it can lead to severe damage to internal organs.

Task

In this task, you are to create a social media strategy promoting the prevention of a non-infectious disease.

To elaborate:

- Create an example blog post for how you can prevent a non-infectious disease (sun cancer)

- Answer the following questions below in your selected social media (Facebook, blog, poster, instagram. Note: it does not have to be posted, but just an example of how you would caption the image)

- The image can be your own creation, ranging from informative, to something that can capture the audience (the stages of a mole, a bottle of sunscreen, promoting Slip Slop Slap ).

- Use secondary sources and statistics to provide the most information for the audience

Process

Question 3. Describe the methods and steps taken to treat your non-infectious disorder and justify how it aids the disorder.

Question 4. Evaluate how this non-infectious disease can be prevented.

For diversification:

Student of a lower learning ability can present their findings through the use of a hand made poster instead of a computer based task or through a speech answering the questions.

Rationale:

The theme of social media, prevention and non-communicable diseases are of interest to me and the students as it is an aspect used in every day life and has an influence over our every decision. Student's these days, thrive off social media and this could be a great learning opportunity for student's as it is combining their every day ordinary with biology. In particular, the use of social media as a strategy helps to raise awareness with the younger generations but is not limited in age. It is shows students that marketing can be aimed to raise awareness about prevention and not just advertisements.
