Introduction
You are about to embark on a quest for information about the legend of King Arthur. You will be gathering facts and opinions about King Arthur which will help you to form your own ideas about the legend and the role it plays in many British and American novels, plays, poems and films.
Task
Your task is to help write the content for an informational youtube video entitled: The Legend of Arthur.
This video will be aimed at next year's students who are being introduced to their Junior British Literature course.
You want them to have the background they need to read "King Arthur and His Knights".
The video has four segments. You will need to be part of a group of four people who take a section each. If you are online
and cannot work with a group even virtually, you may submit one section only.
The sections are:
1. The origins of the story of Arthur. You will need to address the issue or question: Who was Arthur? Was he a true historical figure?
2. The development of the story of King Arthur. What parts of the story do all the versions have in common? Which have endured?
3. What are the many ways that the Legend has been used in literature, poetry, art and modern media such as film or games?
4. What is next for Arthurian Legend? How might we expect to see the story used in the future?
Each section should be able to be read within two minutes
Process
The first step for everyone in your group is to research the story and get an overview of the legend of King Arthur.
Step 1. Elect a team leader. Their first task will be to go onto Google classroom and complete Arthur Informational Video - Statement of Intent. This is worth five points for everyone in your group.
They should then create and share a Google doc. that all of you will contribute to- in order to build your script. Have them name it using all of your last names.
Step 2. Do your basic overview research.
Read the short Britannica article on King Arthur here.
Read the Catholic Encyclopedia Article on Arthur here
Use the links they give to research topics.
Step 3. Allocate the segments of the video. Make sure everyone has a section. Once you have done that, inform me that it is done by putting the information at the top of the Google doc. you are sharing (you know the one with everyone's last name on it!)
Step 4. Tonight's homework will be to research your segment and write a short draft. Tomorrow you will
be reading the draft together and editing it in the google doc.
Step 5. Submit a final copy on Wednesday October 14. Make it possible for me to track your edits to see who has done what.
Step 6. For 5 extra credit points each - film yourself performing your part of the script.
