Assessment task Webquest:

A) Create an annotated Bibliography relevant to the activities and research done within the class study topic: the dark side of social media and online privacy. 

 

B)  Using the knowledge you have gained throughout your Webquest, write a response to a statement (You will not be shown the question until the test).

How?

  • This Webquest will lead you through completing the first part of your assessment task.
  • The second part will be a test which the class will sit together during Friday's English period.
  • Although you will not know the question until the test, you can know that it will be related to everything you are being asked to research throughout this Webquest. 

 

What is an annotation?

a. A summary: what are the main arguments? What topics are covered? 

b. An assessment of the resource: is the source relevant to this topic? How does it compare with other sources in your bibliography? Is it reliable information? 

c. A reflection of the source: Was the source helpful? Does it change your perspective of your topic?

Task:

1) Create an annotated Bibliography through a Webquest, which is relevant to the activities and research done within the class study topic: the dark side of social media and online privacy. (20 marks)

  • This must include 10 resources. 
  • Each annotation should be a paragraph explaining how the text relates to this part of our Digital Words unit: the dark side of social media and online privacy. 
  • Submit your task responses through Google Classroom as we have been doing for all coursework this year. 

Start by reading through all the tabs in the Webquest.

  • There are some handy tips and information about the assessment hidden all throughout, so make sure you are paying attention!
  • You will want to make sure you understand the assessment, criteria and outcomes, so check that our before it's due. 
  • I will be moving among the class to see what resources you are using and to ask you about your opinion on online privacy to see if it is changing as the topic progresses. 
  • Make sure you are keeping notes and your bibliography up to date, because it will be hard to find your resources again if you forget to save their links!

Each quest may take more than one lesson! 

  • When you are finished, upload your responses to Google Classroom and check in with me please. 
  • Make sure you are working on your bibliography as you go. You will be given time aside from the quest to work on it, but make sure you are linking it back to these activities!

Your first quest:

2 - Using the below as a guide, what 3 questions would you add to this resource for creating an annotated bibliography?

Your second quest:

"Accessibility of information is a good thing".

Find two articles that support this statement and two articles against it, remember our introductory lesson? What makes a credible or reliable resource? Make sure you are keeping that in mind. 

For each article answer these questions:

  • What side does this article take? (approx 50 words)
  • Does the article offer any advice to the reader? (approx 100 words)
  • Could the reader use the advice from the article on their own device? (approx 100 words)

Write a 200 word argument for each perspective and be prepared for an in class debate!

Your third quest:

Firstly,

after this weeks activities do you think there is a lack of privacy online?  Does the lack of online privacy effect the individual, the community, the country or all of these?

Write a paragraph response without googling any answers.

Secondly,

go to this website and read through articles on internet privacy, make a list of technical jargon with definitions (we will see who can get the largest list).

Thirdly, 

create a response to this question referencing at least 2 resources from the website above:

What changes would you like to see in the way people handle their personal information? (approx 300 words).

Finish your bibliography!

As stated on your assessment sheet, you will have this with you in your test. You will not be expected to quote your resources BUT you will need to reference the articles you use. This means, you need to know what you've put on your list.
