Classifying Living Things

Introduction

Calling all zoologists, veterinarians, and wildlife biologists for a very important mission! I need your help! A local zoo just hired me to create an advertizement poster for thier zoo that shows all the different types of animal groups but, I don't know much about animals and the different characteristics they have that make them easy to classify into groups. That's where you come in! I need your help identifying fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals! You will go over the information I have provided to help me classify animals!

To get started, take the pre-assessment and click here: https://www.proprofs.com/quiz-school/story.php?title=animal-characteristics

Although, the pre-assessment shows you what questions you answered correctly or incorrectly, the score WILL NOT be counted in your webquest assignment.  The pre-assessment is intended to help you identify what you already know!

Once you've taken your pre-assessment, proceed to the TASK page to get your next mission!

Task

Step 1:  Watch the instructional video below.

Step 2:  After watching the instructional video, take some time to play the game below to practice classifying animals:

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/content/animals/kidscorner/games/animalclassgame.swf

The game allows you to drag and drop the animal characteristics at the top into the animal groups.  If you have dragged a chracteristic to the wrong animal group, it will bounce back to the top until it is dragged to the correct animal group.

Process

Now, that you've learned all about animals and how to classify them, I need you to create an advertizement poster for the zoo that shows all the different types of animal groups!

You can complete the poster digitally or on paper and you may use internet pictures or the picture cards provided on the Teams WebQuest assignment.  Please be creative!

Your advertizement poster should have at least one animal on the poster that represents each animal group and a sayinging that grabs people's attention and makes them want to visit the zoo. The 5 groups are listed below:
