Dear student-teachers welcome to this webquest about teaching a L2 to young learners!

Look at the following L2 acquisition principles by Krashen et al (1982) when planning activities for young children.

Meaningful and interesting input.
Exposition to natural language as much as possible.

Contextualize students' language, age, home, town, culture, family, among others.

Additionally, Key learnings and competencies by SEP will be of importance when you decide which activities are useful for teaching children according to the curriculum.

The competency approach and key learnings are the bases to plan any activity in the English class. Plans and programs look for the development of competencies to study, live and learn outside the school and in consequence what students learn will be useful for living successfully in our current society (SEP, 2017).

A competency is the mobilization of knowledge in the face of particular circumstances demonstrated in action; for example, communicative competence is manifested when speaking or writing and motor competence when moving (SEP, 2017).

Key learnings are divided into:

Ludic and literary
Academic and formation

The purpose of this task is to guide you to select the most suitable activities for teaching young learners according to the principles of L2 acquisition and the curriculum by SEP.

Now, by using the lesson plan format, we have agreed to use complete the next:

1. The purpose of the activity.

2. The key learnings (SEP) that this activity contributes to.

3. The process step by step that should be carried out during the development of the activity in your classroom with your students, here include the time for each one of the steps, the setup of the students and the classroom, type of interaction and materials.

4. Finally, explain how this activity fits the principles of teaching young learners a L2 in the classroom.
