Objective: 1 What is matter?
2. Identify the three state of matter
3. State the properties of each state of matter
What is matter?
Matter - Matter is anything that has weight and takes up space. It is made up of particles.
Matter can be classified in three states Solid, Liquid and gas.
1. solids - keep their shape and are usually hard.
Properties of solid
- Rigid- means it cannot poured
- Fixed shape - it doesn't take the shape of its container
- Fixed volume - The measurement remains the same
2. Liquids - Liquid can be pour and change shape depending on the container they are in.
Properties of liquid
- Not rigid- It's a fluid and can be poured
- No fixed shape- The liquid shapes like its container.
- Fixed volume- The measurement remains the same
3. Gas- Gas fills its container and takes the shape of the whole container.
Example the air inside a balloon
Properties of gas
- Not rigid
- Not fixed shape
- No fixed volume
