Introduction
In a twist to make grammar a little more fun, we are taking to the internet! In this WebQuest, each student will be responsible for finding grammar and spelling errors and correcting a few "misheard" samples. These samples are actually parts of lyrical writing. Can you identify the metaphor, too?
Task
At the end of this activity, I hope you all have honed in your skills with grammar corrections and have maybe found a new favorite song or two! Also, while we have been working on basic elements of writing, I am including some extra credit that we will be moving forward in our lessons to learn about.
Process
Read through the lyrics and screenshot the page on your iPads or save it on your computers. Make edits and save those and upload the new *edited* version to an email and send them directly to me. Each category (grammar, spelling, and capitalization) all have a certain number of mistakes. Please see the rubric to see how many mistakes you should find. The metaphors are counted as extra credit.
If you are having trouble saving and editing a screen shot, please copy and past each sample onto a word document and work from there. Follow the same guidelines which appear below.
When correcting them on your screen please follow the guidelines below:
1) Use blue for grammar corrections. Mark where the grammar mark is wrong and note what it should be.
2) Use green for spelling errors. Please rewrite the word, with the correct spelling, at the end of the line. Words which are bolded are meant to be spelled that way so please ignore those words.
3) Use red for capitalization.
4) please underline the first line of a metaphor in orange.
Here are the samples:
Sample One: Lyrics from Flo Rida's "My House" - present tense
"Hear a knock on the Door and the night begins
'Cause we done this befour so you come on in
Make yourself at my home, tell me where you bin
Pour yourself something cold, baby, cheers to this
Sometimes you gotta stay in
And you know Where I Live
Yeah, you know. what we is
Sometimes! you gotta stay in, in
Welcome to 'My House'
Baby take control now
We can't even sew down
We don't have to go out
Welcome to my house
Play that music to loud
Show me what You do now
We don't have to go out
Welcome to my house
Welcome to My House"
Sample Two: Lyrics from Lonestar's "I'm Already There"
"He called her on the road
From a lonely, cold Hotel Room
Just to ear her say i love you one more time
But when he heard the sound
Of the kids laughing! in the background
He had to wipe away a tare from his eye
A little voice came on the phone
Said, Daddy when you coming home?"
He said the first thing that came to his mind
I'm already there
Take a look around
I'm the Sunshine in your heir
I'm the Shadow on the ground
I'm the Whisper in the wind
I'm your Imaginary fried.
And I know I'm in your prayers
Oh, I'm already there"
Sample 3: Create a sample, note how many errors (punctuation, capitalization, and grammar) exist and send it my way. Please also sent the corrected version to me as well. The sample should have a clear meaning.
EXTRA CREDIT: This activity is really designed to help boost grades and build confidence. Incorporate the following two elements in the stanza or chorus which you write. Two points will be added for the successful incorporation of each of the following elements:

Teacher Page
This page was set up for my EDT 402 class in which one of the assignments was to create a WebQuest. I wanted a way that would connect with the students and be less intimidating than the typical "edit the paragraph" style. Thank you!
