Introduction
Learners are inspired to be curious about collecting and processing materials that would be otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community and the environment.

Curious:
- Global marketplace
- Filling a void—what we need from our inventions
Connect:
- What makes products appealing?
- Refurbishing old products for new interest
- From trash to treasure—what is useful to us?
Communicate:
- Why we must innovate
- Creativity in business—new ideas from old ways
- Combating waste using innovation
Challenge:
Your company sales are declining and you want to use waste to invent a gadget that is useful to people. To stay in business, your group of inventors will add an improvement or design an invention or gadget to work better and once again become useful to people. Students must brainstorm and develop an improvement to a tool, gadget, or previous invention. Students must produce the technology using the resources necessary for its production.

Reflect on this section:
Did you enjoy redesigning or creating this gadget? Why or why not? What were the challenges of redesigning or creating this gadget? If you could choose a different gadget to produce, what would it be and why?

Process
Solution Fluency Process:
Define:
Your group must create a gadget from waste- from trash to treasure- by:
- Taking advantage from limited resources to ideate an eco-friendly product
Discover:
Have students brainstorm a gadget they would like to develop or redesign. Get students to think of how they will use the limited resources to benefit the sector their company is involved in.
Dream:
Imagine your company designing or constructing a new gadget for the public. The gadget will help serve people with their needs and perhaps make their lives a little easier. If your company will not create a product from waste , then you will be out of business soon , dream of a solution.
Design:
Creating a chart using A3 paper outlining : Area, Group members, Device name, Description and relation, Sketch of the design of the real device, and fritzing.
Deliver:
1. Fritz your invention
2. Wire your invention
3. Write the code for your invention to make it function
Debrief:
Take a time to reflect on your project as a group. start reflecting upon the gadget you worked with during the unit. Did you enjoy redesigning or creating this gadget? Why or why not? What were the challenges of redesigning or creating this gadget? If you could choose a different gadget to produce, what would it be and why? Next, your group must review the production process. Why do companies use banks? Why do gadgets have to be improved so often? What types of resources are there and what are some examples your group used to produce your gadget? Did the design chart help you understand anything new about the gadget? Finally, as a group you must focus on the persuasive advertisement. Did your group develop a persuasive advertisement that would entice the public to buy it? What type of people will benefit from the gadget? Why is it so important to work well with your group of inventors? What advice would you give groups just beginning this activity? What did you learn during the activity that all inventors should know?
Evaluation
You will be evaluated for the following criteria:
| Designing your A3 Chart | 3 |
| Manufacturing your gadget | 2 |
| Wiring your gadgets | 2 |
| Coding your gadgets | 2 |
| Reflecting on the activity | 1 |
| Total | 10/2 |
