Have you ever seen an impression of a plant or an animal's skeleton before? If you have been to a museum, were you curious about how the different exhibits came together? Do you wonder what a fossil is? Today you are in for a treat because we are going to on an excavation to learn more fossils. Make sure you have your research journal out as you complete each task.

You will be going through the journey of how fossils are made and the different types there are. There is three time periods that you will looking at. On your excavation of digging up information about fossils you will be completing the graphic organizer as you follow along. This will help you write down everything you have learned on your adventure!

At the end of your journey there will be a quiz for you to complete. 

Process

1. Your first task is about fossils. Click on the website below to learn more about fossils and what they are. Make sure to take notes in your journal. After you wrote down an interesting fact about fossils or given an example with a picture, then you may move on to the Triassic period.

Fossils are the remains of plants and animals from hundreds to thousands of years ago. Paleontologists are the people that study fossils.

2. Your second task is to go through the 3 time periods of the "Age of Dinosaurs". Make sure you are documenting all of your new findings in your journal. 

Scientists have broken up the era of Dinosaurs into three periods. Each period paleontologists have found different types of fossils.

3. The last task is to discover some of the different types of Dinosaurs and fossils that paleontologists study. Click on the website below to learn more about specific dinosaurs. Make sure you are following along in the journal documenting your findings.

Not all fossils are just dinosaurs there is also plants, animals, and other objects. Many fossils can be found in Sedimentary rock.
