Introduction
The purpose of this webquest is to introduce you to the historical time period in which To Kill A Mockingbird takes place (1930s).
In this webquest, you will read, watch, and listen to various bits of information about Jim Crow Laws, The Great Depression, and various people who fought hard for civil rights.
You will have part of today (10/2) and tomorrow (10/3) to complete your WebQuest.
Task
Work with a partner to complete each task. All of the supplemental questions for each task are found in your To Kill a Mockingbird: Pre-Reading Packet. Packets will be handed in and graded as quiz grades. Each partner is responsible for completing their own packet.
Task One: Jim Crow Laws
Click on the link below to take you to an article about Jim Crow Laws. Take turns reading the article aloud with your partner. Then, answer the supplemental questions about the article in your packet under "Task One".

Task Two: Jim Crow Stories
Countless individuals left imprints on the Jim Crow era and beyond. Though far from comprehensive, the list on the website below features important players in the struggle against Jim Crow. All of the people on this website followed unique paths as they tried to improve their worlds.
Select one person from the website and read/listen to their story. Give an overview of this person and their legacy in your packet under "Task Two".

Task Three: The Great Depression
The collection of pictures on the website below offers a glimpse into the lives of Americans who suffered through The Great Depression. Sift through these images and read the stories of the people they capture. Once you and your partner have finished previewing each photo, select three images that you feel truly depict the hardships during this time. Draw/describe these images in your pre-reading packet under task three. Then, answer the questions that follow.
