Introduction
How many ways can you tell someone, "get out of my house!?"
Think about the blunt way, the legal way, the attitudinal way, the rude way, the polite way, the politically correct way and the very aggressive way.
The law is very much up for interpretation, depending on the person reading it. The people who rely on these interpretations are people who have a large part to play in our justice system. Lawyers can interpret the law in order to change the way something happened or to convince a jury or magistrate that this law was not clear, or did not specifically reflect an offenders actions/ crimes.
Many lawyers will use previous case law to argue reasons for dismissal or an adjournment. It is important that first civilians understand the law in order to be able to interpret it. A great advantage if you ever are in the position of having to represent yourself or confer with a lawyer.
Task
You will need to create a brochure for a young person. :)
Your brochure can be created using Microsoft Word by downloading a brochure template.
Use the template to create a simplified version of a NSW Law that is relevant to them eg: Child Protection, Discrimination, Roads and Transport Act etc.... You only need to do one section, NOT THE ENTIRE ACT/ LAW.
Your brochure should be informative, with your interpretation of the Act you chose. Also include a section about consequences/ punishment if this law is broken.
You will submit your brochure in Google classroom (Miss Habib's Google Classroom for Commerce)
Process
Use the Link below for ALL Australian consolidated Acts.
Miss Habib will show you how to use the link to find NSW Legislation.
The challenge is to see how well you can interpret the meaning and intentions of the Legislation.
Be as creative with your brochure as possible.
the link :
The information you should include on your brochure:
1. What is the title of the Legislation?
2. Who or what does it aim to protect?
3. What section of this legislation are you simplifying?
4. What are the main do's and don'ts of this legislation?
5. How can people be punished/protected under this legislation?
6. Identify and briefly describe one example of a Case that came before the court under your chosen Legislation.
7. Include graphics / pics that can help a young person become more knowledgable about this Legislation.
Have fun with it!! Be creative!

Conclusion
Access and knowledge of Australian Legislation can save a lot of time and money if you are ever in a spot of incrimination.
It can be hard to know your rights and responsibilities without this knowledge. Giving young people a legal education means that the journey into adult life and adult responsibilities of being a law- abiding citizen are automatic.
This legal knowledge opens doors and opportunities for you to help educate others, to understand your rights in every establishment you enter and your responsibilities to your Government and others.
