RATES AND PROPORTIONALITY

Introduction

Have you ever measured how far you can walk in 15 minutes? Have you wondered how fast you walk in kilometers per hour? Begin exploring this activity to find out.

You can find unknown information about real-world situations by using given information to find rates, and then setting up and solving proportions.

Task

You will:

  • review what is a ratio.
  • calculate unit rates from rates.
  • represent constant rates of change given a table, verbal description, equation, or graph.
  • determine constant of proportionality in real-world situations.

Process

For Unit Rate:

Evaluation

The grading process will be in the following way:

  • Activity 1, 30%
  • Filling the table, 10%
  • Finding the distance per hour from the table, 30%
  • Plotting Distance-Time on the coordinate plane on milimetrical paper, 30%

Give the Distance-Time graph to your teacher on May 31st.
