Braille is Beautiful!

Introduction

Since you currently have a friend in the classroom who is learning to read and write braille, he and I thought it would be fun to find out what you know about it and also what you might think about this "Secret Code.". This will be the first of 5 lessons so LET's GET STARTED!

Task

All I ask is that you answer the questions honestly so that both you and I can better understand what you think and feel about braille and blindness.

Process

  1. Please open the colored folder that was given to you.  The sticker on the front should read "Braille."
  2. Inside the folder is a worksheet that reads "pre-test" on the top.  This is to see what you think and know about braille and blindness before we start working together.  Please answer all 24 true/false questions.  There are no wrong answers and this test will not be graded.
  3. After the pre-test is complete, please locate the large pieces of chart paper taped to the wall in the back of the classroom. Using one of the markers next to the chart paper, please write one thing you think about blindness AND how it would affect the way you live.
  4. Once you have written on the chart paper, please hand your pre-test to your teacher and put your "Braille" folder inside your desk.
  5. When all of your classmates are finished, your teacher will play a video for you.  The name of the video is "Jake and the Secret Code."

Evaluation

  • Please make sure you completed all 24 true/false questions before turning the pre-test into your teacher.
  • Also, make sure you wrote the answers to both parts of the question on the large chart paper. We will be discussing this information during the next lesson when I am in the classroom with you.

Conclusion

Thank you for your honest answers!

Your teacher will be setting out some braille books and braille writing tools on the back table for you to look at throughout the day when you have time.

I will be here in your classroom in a couple of days to begin teaching you the "Secret Code!"
