Introduction
For this week, you be completing this WebQuest. The Quest is going to help guide you as you explore what theme is and how to identify it. It will also engage you to write a great summary. I have picked some interactive ways to teach you this concept, and I hope you enjoy. The goal is to give you a better understanding of theme and how to summarize a short book.
Task
This assignment has four parts. Each part is different and they get more difficult. Part one is to simply define theme. Part two is to play the theme game I attach. Remember what theme is from step one. Part three is to watch the Pixar short Kitbull and write the theme. Part four is to pick a book from the site provided,read it, give the theme and a summary. I want good sentence structure used throughout the whole assignment. I want every student to understand theme and walk away with a greater appreciation for the deeper meaning of literature.
Process
Time management is going to be key for this assignment. You will have 4 days to complete these activities. I will not make anything due until the last day. You may do them in whatever order on whatever day. This will show me how responsible or irresponsible you are as a student. Please stay on track. I have provided a check off sheet to help you keep on track. There are four steps and four days, divide it how you want.

Step 2- Get the word document from me and define theme on it. Extra credit if you write an example of a theme below your definition.

Fill in the blanks related to step three. Write a theme of at least two sentences.
Step 4- Pick a book off of this site: https://www.notimeforflashcards.com/2013/11/88-books-that-teach-important-lessons.html
Read the book. Look for its deeper meaning. Fill in the blanks related to part 4. The summary needs to be at least a paragraph. The theme needs to be at least two sentences.
Staple the check-off and fill-in sheet together and turn them in.
Evaluation
I have made a very simple check-off sheet for you to stay one track. The check-off sheet with also be used to grade your work. When you look at the check-off sheet you will see how many points each small part is worth. Please write well and in complete sentences to receive full points. USE THE CHECK-OFF SHEET AS A GUIDE!
Conclusion
This WebQuest was designed to help you understand theme and how to write a summary. Please note I will always be here to help. If you need more practice try playing the game more or ask me for extra practice worksheets.
