Introduction

You are about to graduate high school and preparing to take the next step in your life. You realize you will need a job to work while you are taking this step. You have attended a job fair and are wanting to prepare yourself for any of the employers that will be interviewing you for positions. Your task is to research job interview etiquette to study, learn, and practice to be prepared and market yourself for the available position.

Task

Your task is to prepare yourself for the interview process. To attain this goal, you need to know the following:

 

  1. Appropriate Attire- How do you need to dress?

  2. What attributes are the employers looking for?

  3. Should you ask questions during the interview process? If so, what types of questions would be appropriate? When is the appropriate time to ask questions?

  4. Is non-verbal communication an important component in the interview process? If so, explain.

  5. List any common mistakes made by interviewees during an interview? How can you avoid these?

At the end of this lesson you will be presenting the information you have acquired. The presentation will consist of:

Role Play/Mock Interview -Each student will participate as the Interviewer and Interviewee.

Peer Grading Rubric -Each student will be provided a grading rubric that will allow them to grade themselves along with the ability to grade their peer they are paired with.

Don’t forget that first impressions are lasting. Usually your employer will know in the first three minutes. So dress appropriate, be confident, know when to ask the “right” questions, and learn from the mistakes of others.
