America is a great place to live. The freedoms Americans enjoy do not come without a price. Men and women of the United States work to defend this great nation. You will be learning about each branch of the armed forces. After researching each of them and creating a brochure, decide which branch you would be most likely to join.

The class will be placed into 5 groups. Each group will research details about one of the US branches of the military : US Marine Corps, US Army, US Air Force, US Navy, or US Coastguard. Each group must find the date in which the branch was founded. Each group must find the logo for their branch as well as three interesting facts about that branch of the government.

2. Use the information listed above to create a brochure for your assigned branch of the military using the provided supplies.

Focus: 

The students are to learn more about each branch of the military including the dates in which they were founded as well as be able to recognize the logos associated with each branch. By researching and applying what they have learned to create a brochure, the students are not only understanding what they are learning, but are also putting that knowledge to use by creating a brochure. Once each student has had a chance to view the brochures, he or she will be able to draw their own conclusion about each branch of the armed forces. The opinions of the students will be able to be viewed and displayed on the class bar graph.
