Homer used to live with his mother when he was a little baby, but when he was a child, his mother left home.

Homer used to live with his father when he was a school student, but he is used to living with his family now.

He used to get  bad marks when he was young.

He used to drink beer on the sofa; however, nowadays, he is used to doing many different things apart from drinking.

He used to ignore March in the high school. But, he is so in love with her now.

He is used to living with his wife, March, who is his housewife.

 because we want to:

  c) emphasise we are accustomed to something.

2. Why do we use the expression be going to?

 because we want to:

  a) emphasise a past habit.

Homer (stay) in a flat with his father, but he decided to change his residence because he could not put up

with his father's terrible behaviour. However, he is accustomed to his father's annoying attitude nowadays. In fact,

(see) his father behaving badly day by day. He married March and he had three children with her. Although

Homer (love) March very much at the beginning, he is absolutely in love with her now.

In the past, he (watch) TV and (drink) beer with his friends, he didn't have time to flirt with girls. So, March had to make a big

effort to catch his attention!

In spite of being a little bit naughty and careless when he was young, Homer really loves his family. He (give) very

good advice to his daughter and son. In addition, he (talk) about anything important that worries him with his wife.

Some people may think that Homer had an easy life, but he didn't. Actually, his mother, who (live) with his father and him,

she left one day. Although he (do) his life without his beloved mum, he really misses her on many occasions. Life is life!

7. After finishing, one of the group members should type the answers in a Word or Oppen Office document and send them to the teacher's email.

TASK:

1- After doing the previous activities, you should think about the roles of every group member. Remember that you are four people:

  • SCRIPT WRITERS: you should write the script of your role-play all together. In order to do it properly, you should consider a contest situation where you should ask and answer questions using the past tense (past simple and past continuous), used to and be used to.

  • ACTORS/ACTRESSES: The 4 members of the group will perform the role-play in front of the camera or microphone. 2 of them will be the hosts and 2 will be the contestants. You must read and remember the script. Practise your role a couple of times in order to perform it right.

  • CAMERA OPERATOR: In case you use https://flipgrid.com/, (use this code: flipgrid.com/enoral4) one member at a time will have to record the role-play with the video camera on the mobile phone. This communicative situation cannot last more than 3 minutes.

    • However, if you decide to record your voice with https://voicethread.com/, make sure that your voice is audible. This communicative situation cannot last more than 3 minutes.

2- Finally, your task is competed successfully!

Evaluation

In order to assess you, I will use the following rubrics posted on the website:

- Speaking rubric.

- Collaborative Learning rubric.

Check them on the website!

Conclusion

Finally, you have finished the task! You should feel very confident if you need to present a contest in the future! I hope you have taken in everything we have learnt in this Webquest!

I will correct your role-play with the rubrics and I will give you some individual and group feedback by email.

Remember that you use the past simple for finished actions and states and  the past continuous for actions which were in progress in the past. Additionally, you should use used to + infinitive to refer to habits and states in the past. However,  we use be used to + -ing to say that we are accustomed to something now.
