Introduction

You are going to read a novel called "My Left Foot " by Christy Brown. This is an abridged (shortened) version of his original novel of the same title, and still contains much of the original language and all of the important plot, characters, setting, and lessons that Brown presented in the full-length book.
Before we read, it is important to understand the context of the book, life in Dublin during this time period, and important events in Christy Brown's life. Having this background knowledge will allow you to understand what is going on in the book and to learn all that Brown is teaching his readers.

Task
You have to create an online presentation or a video about different aspects of the novel My Left Foot.
Students are expected to read the book at home and report on their independent reading to the rest of the class group.
Each group will be assigned one of the topics below:
STUDENT A: You will provide an insight into the lives and careers of Daniel Day-Lewis, Christy Brown and Jim Sheridan. Mention awards won.
STUDENT B: You will be researching the plot and the novel's context: Ireland in the story time period, in the 1940s and 1950s. Its political, social and economic issues and how they affect the plot. Include the role of the church during this period.
STUDENT C: What do you already know about the film adaptation? When was it made? Who are the stars? When and where is it set? Did it win an award? You have to research about book-to-film adaptations. Mention famous examples. Present a for and against argument.
STUDENT D: You have to research cerebral palsy. Why do you think that there is so much prejudice against this disorder? Why do you think that people that met Christy presumed he was mentally retarded? Mention other handicapped famous people and how they have contributed to society. Process
The class group will be organized in teams of 4. Each team will have to make a presentation containing reliable and complete information on one of the topics proposed.
Your presentation should be planned and organized. Practice your presentations until you feel that all the members of your group know their parts perfectly.
Everyone must participate in the final presentation.
Make sure everyone on the team has read the book assigned. You should refer to the book as you work on the project. Provide at least one example or quote from the text.
4. You are encouraged to present your work in a creative way. You can use visual aids and other multimedia techniques such as video, websites, or one of the many free interactive tools available on the net: Prezi, thinglink, Genially, Powtoon, Slides, etc
Send the teacher your final product before presenting to the class.

The team will present their findings to the class by visual means.
