Introduction
Cardio for fun!
Cardio should be fun, for any age. When you were a young child you used to run forever just for fun. Why does it have to change now that you are older? The answer to that question is, it does not! What type of cardio would you love to do?
*Dance *Running *Soccer *Basketball *Obstacle Course *Partner Runs
It is up to you!
Task
- Find what cardio task you like the best.
- You can pick from dance, running, soccer, basketball, obstacle course, or partner runs.
- You will decide on what type of activity you are doing and with your fellow classmates who are doing that activity as well you will become a group.
- You will become a master at this exercise.
- At the end of the unit within your group you will create a commercial PowerPoint to let the rest of the class know how your activity went. The PowerPoint needs to explain your activity and how the group did as a whole. The groups overall results will be presented in this PowerPoint. This project is to display what your group has done through this whole unit. You are selling your activity to your fellow classmates through this PowerPoint.

- *Your dance is your choice, hip-hop, line dance, jazz. (I need to approve of your groups music first) The obstacle course must be on the soccer fields and cover the whole field with different activities. The runs must only be in the physical education area. Basketball will be played on the outside courts and soccer games will be on the upper fields on campus.
Video below for example of obstacle course:
Process
Find what cardio exercise you will be completing.
Pick from one of the following:
*Dance *Running *Soccer *Basketball *Obstacle Course *Partner Runs
- Start at step one: practice the cardio exercise, (figure out what type of dance you will be doing if you choose dance, and what route for runs and what obstacle course design will you choose.)
Pick a team leader, and team co-leader to help make decisions within your group.
Use a blank drawing paper, iPad, or computer to take down notes and figure out your action plans.

- Step two: practice, practice, practice! Become a master at your cardio exercise. Set goals within that exercise for every two days. Your goals should be tough and should make you work hard. Goals that are set should include both group and individual goals. Write down every goal and keep track. Your group leader or co-leader can pick someone to complete this job by logging entries into a notebook or iPad (similar device).
- Step three: You are wrapping up the unit and completing the final project. The final project will be a PowerPoint commercial. Each group will create a PowerPoint explaining how their fitness regime went. (One PowerPoint per group) You will need a computer that has the program PowerPoint installed on it. This is available at our school computer lab, or local public library. You do not need internet access, but you do need to upload the finished project on a flash drive your burn it on a disc. If you have any questions regarding this process I am here to help.
Evaluation
This is how your work will be evaluated.
|
Trouble 0-4 |
Borderline 6 |
Nice Job 8-10 |
Score |
|
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physical Fitness Level | Lack of effort, and not participating | In need of improvement, but putting forth effort | Nice effort, good participating skills | |
| Group Effort | Lack of group effort or none shown | Working with others, but still not showing much effort | Awesome effort with group, providing lots of information within group | |
| Power point Commercial | Not enough information provided, needs much improvement | Very basic power point, does not provide enough information to cover the whole unit | Good use of words, and pictures, &/or needs more information | |
|
Overall Grade |
Did not participate throughout the unit, or lack of participation | More effort and more group effort | Great job &/or needs a little bit of improvement but right on point |
Conclusion
Students; the conclusion for this whole project throughout this class was that when you were able to find an activity you liked you enjoyed being active. For the most part you all forgot that you were actually improving your cardio, and achieving a good level of physical fitness. That was the overall goal. What I would like each of you to remember is that cardio does not have to be boring, it should be fun and you should enjoy the activity. Remember to stay fit and try new sports to keep yourself motivated and challenged.
