Process
Task 3: Refugees stories in Australia
Working in pairs, your task is to research a refugee’s story and then explain their story to your classmates.
You will need to explain what makes the people in the story refugees, and how they contribute to multiculturalism in Australia.
The SBS website “How Far We’ve Come” explores the lives of refugees in Australia over time.
It includes stories of refugees first interviewed by SBS up to 25 years ago, to find out what has happened in their lives since. Each story has a fact sheet with background information on the person’s country of origin and the conditions that forced them to flee.
Work in pairs. Go to the link below and choose a story to research.
http://www.sbs.com.au/refugees/home.html
Each pair of students must do a different story. Your teacher will tell you which story to watch.
Watch the video of your chosen story. Take notes as you watch.
Read the fact sheet and take brief notes.
You will report back to the class about what you have discovered about your refugee - you will give a short summary about your refugee.
Evaluation
To evaluate your work, write a reflective paragraph comparing the migrant and refugee experience in Australia.
