► As you know, we have already talked about the general characteristics of the 19th-century environment and the development of the genre of novel. This week we will cover some of the samples of the 19th-century British Literature in our classes. In the 19th century, authors in the United Kingdom produced novels that challenged class systems, trained an eye on the deplorable living conditions of the working class, gave us some of the earliest works of feminist literature, invented many of the tropes used and reused in modern literature, and created some of the most unforgettable characters ever. Right now, I think we should have an idea about famous 19th-century writers and their popular works.

► This WebQuest will help you to find a way to enter this impressive world of the novel and be more active during the class session where we will take a glance to all works that will be mentioned in Webquest.

After making research about one of the novels that are written in 19th-century, you can basically understand the general characteristics of 19th-century British Literature. This will help you to conceptualize what we have covered in our classes and you will have a more active role in classroom discussions. Do not forget what Charles W. Eliot said:

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
